Concluding our Second Year
It is difficult to believe that we are
concluding our second year. As happens so rapidly with our
teenagers, we have witnessed their physical, emotional and
intellectual growth. We are delighted with our students. They
have come from across the county, have established wonderful,
new friendships and become a truly cohesive group.
Additionally, they have realized that success
at IAM is dependent upon each student’s motivation,
responsibility, diligence and commitment in meeting the exacting
demands of the program. We have seen growth in their
willingness to accept personal responsibility, act as
self-starters, improve learning skills, undertake academic
challenges, and set appropriate standards of conduct.
Orientation
for the Class of 2014
We’re looking
forward to welcoming the Class of 2014 at an Ice Cream Social at
the Macomb Intermediate School District on June 11, at 7 pm.
Presenters will provide overviews of various aspect of the IAM,
parents will receive a packet of information, and families will
have the opportunity to meet other families.
Special Days
On the morning
of Tuesday, June 15, our students will receive their yearbooks,
elect their Student Council members, participate in an Honors
Assembly and attend a meeting with Mrs. Demas. Then, they will
walk to the Chippewa Valley High School cafeteria, where an
exceptional group of IAM parents will prepare lunch for our
kids. In the afternoon, students will participate in a Field Day
of activities intended to build on the community spirit that is
such an important part of the IAM.
Our Adventures in Technology
We extend a heartfelt thank you to Patricia
Williams, President, and Roger Roth, Chairman and CEO, of Lunar
Inc., Design & Manufacture of Specialty Tooling & CNC Machining,
for providing 8 of our students a unique experience. Our 9th
graders where challenged to provide options for a real-world,
business problem at Lunar. On the afternoon of June 1 our
students provided possible solutions to company representatives.
Our students were most impressive! We thank Mrs. Depew for
spearheading this valuable experience. We also thank Mr. Alwardt
and Miss Muir for the speech instruction they have provided our
students this year. We have witnessed tremendous growth in our
9th graders’ communication skills.
Enrichment Activities
We conclude the school year with a final
enrichment activity, a trip to Stratford to see The Tempest
and Peter Pan to experience a workshop, to enjoy lunch
and dinner together, and return in the early hours of the
morning.
